COTTON FLOWERS AND STEMS

In our fields in Ramacca, on the Catania Plain, we also grow cotton for ornamental use. When the mature cotton bolls open, we harvest the stems intended for decoration and leave them to dry.

The fiber remains attached to the bolls, forming the familiar white tufts commonly known as cotton flowers. The result is natural cotton branches that can be used in bouquets, floral arrangements and decorative installations.

FROM THE FIELDS TO NEW SETTINGS.

As the cotton plant grows, it produces flowers that give way to bolls after fertilization. Inside them, the seeds and fiber mature. The fiber becomes visible when the bolls open.

At this stage, cotton takes on the appearance sought for ornamental use. The stems retain the open bolls and white cotton tufts, forming branches that can be displayed whole or arranged in more elaborate compositions.

After harvest, the cotton branches are dried to preserve the structure of the stems, bolls and fiber. This process helps maintain the plant's natural characteristics over time.

Dried cotton stems need no water and can be displayed on their own or alongside other decorative elements. The fiber retains its light color, while the stems and bolls keep their varied shapes and shades, making them suitable for arrangements designed to last.

HARVESTED AND SELECTED ONE BY ONE.

Selecting ornamental cotton means examining each branch carefully. We consider stem height, curvature, the arrangement of the white cotton tufts and how far the bolls have opened, choosing branches that suit different decorative needs.

Variations from one branch to another allow different proportions and volumes. Some stems are suited to being displayed individually, while others work better in bouquets, centerpieces and larger installations.

ONE STEM.
MANY POSSIBILITIES.

A single cotton stem can be placed in a vase, on a shelf or at the center of a table. Several branches arranged together can create larger compositions for shop windows, photo shoots and professional spaces.

Ornamental cotton can be used in a range of settings, from homes and boutiques to hotels and restaurants. Stem size and arrangement can be adapted to the setting, allowing for simple compositions or more striking displays.

ARRANGEMENTS AND INSTALLATIONS.

Cotton flowers can be paired with dried flowers, ceramics, glass, wood and textiles. The fiber's light color complements different color palettes, while the structure of the branches allows arrangements with varying heights and volumes.

For weddings and events, cotton can be used in centerpieces, ceremony decorations and reception spaces. In interiors, retail and hospitality settings, it works in displays ranging from small decorative details to larger installations.
