Gloria Terrae grows organic cotton mainly in Ramacca and in other fields on the Catania Plain.

SOFINE is Gloria Terrae’s textile brand, bringing Sicilian cotton into Italian textile manufacturing. Working with spinners, weavers and specialized manufacturers in Italy, it develops organic cotton yarns, fabrics and products for different applications.

Gloria Terrae’s organic cotton enters a documented and traceable Italian textile supply chain, from ginning through the subsequent stages of processing. The information collected connects the fiber to its agricultural origin.

The long-staple cotton used by SOFINE makes it possible to produce even, strong yarns suitable for creating organic cotton fabric with a compact structure, a soft hand and breathable qualities. The properties of the cotton fiber influence the quality of the finished product and its possible applications.

Spinning and weaving take place in Italy. Applications include fabrics for tailoring, shirting and high-end interiors, as well as velvets and materials for residential spaces, hospitality, contract projects and yachting interiors.

The intended use determines the yarn count, fabric construction, weight, hand feel and finishing. These technical choices make it possible to achieve the specific characteristics required for each application.

The beauty of a fabric also depends on decisions made before manufacturing begins: the variety grown, the characteristics of the fiber and the care taken with the harvest. SOFINE takes these elements as its starting point, drawing on the expertise of Italian spinners, weavers and manufacturers.

EARTHMADE IN ITALY expresses this approach to production, in which agricultural work and textile manufacturing both contribute to the quality of the result. Made in Italy begins with the cotton plant and continues through the processes that determine the material’s appearance, feel and end use.

SOFINE documents the journey of traceable cotton from cultivation through subsequent textile processing. A digital system collects and organizes information about the fields, harvest lots, the fiber and the different stages of transformation.

Alongside this documentation, Haelixa technology uses an invisible DNA-based marker applied directly to the cotton. Specific tests can detect the marker even after processing and verify the origin of the fiber in yarn or fabric.

The two tools serve complementary purposes: the digital system records the stages of the supply chain, while the DNA marker enables the fiber to be authenticated. Brands and textile companies can therefore access documented and verifiable information about the organic cotton used in their production.
